Formiche, i miei modelli preferiti
Credo fermamente nel mantenere le cose semplici quando si pesca a mosca e quando si pesca con la mosca secca la maggior parte dei miei pesci arriva a 4 modelli molto basilari; una variante di CdC IOBO Humpy di Jack Tucker, un semplice CdC Shuttlecock, F Fly di Marjan Fratnick e un semplice Elk Hair Caddis legato senza hackle.
Tuttavia ci sono alcune situazioni in cui queste mosche non sono la scelta ideale, quindi ho alcune mosche più specializzate nella mia scatola. Su alcuni fiumi neozelandesi durante la mezza estate un Willow Grub di taglia 18 o 20 può essere un'aggiunta essenziale alla fly box. Non sarei senza alcune grandi formiche di Chernobyl o coleotteri schiumosi quando pesco nei torrenti di alta montagna dell'Austria e dell'Italia. Alla fine di aprile/inizio maggio non sarei senza uno specifico modello Hawthorn Fly.
Poi c'è il giorno occasionale di fine estate, nel Regno Unito e altrove, quando le formiche volanti emergono in massa. Inoltre, nei miei corsi d'acqua locali del North Yorkshire Moors, le formiche di legno sono prolifiche nelle foreste che costeggiano il corso superiore di molti corsi d'acqua e nelle giornate ventilate cadono spesso dai rami sporgenti. Trote e temoli amano le formiche. Forse è il sapore aspro dell'acido formico che amano, ma qualunque cosa sia il pesce può preoccuparsi di loro quando c'è una buona caduta di formiche.
Ho 2 modelli preferiti. Il primo è F Ant di Stuart Crofts, una variante F Fly che ha un corpo sommerso che aiuta ad "ancorare" la mosca in superficie aiutando a resistere alla micro-resistenza e facendola anche apparire vulnerabile al pesce.

Euro Nymphing. Tackle, methods and flies.
My favourite methods of fly fishing are dry-fly or sight-fished nymphs/bugs, but particularly during the winter, when fishing on spate rivers, the grayling are usually loath to rise to a dry fly and the water is too coloured, or the light too poor, to see the fish for sight-fishing. Movement in your fly when fishing dry fly. Give it a twitch!
Frank Sawyer and Oliver Kite showed nymph-fishers the value of the induced take when nymph-fishing and stillwater fly-fishers are aware of the importance of applying movement to lures. However, many of the dry fly anglers that I see appear to rarely apply movement to their surface offerings, believing that ‘dead drift’ is the most effective way of presenting surface flies.

Carbon, Cane & Fibreglass Fly Rods. Let's talk about it.
