    Also consider

Our goal was to make the most sensitive fly rod in the World.

      Cork or Foam?

It's pure preference. The foam handle is very slim and actually lighter than the cork.

The 6 piece Zero is built on new machines that are able to calculate carbon to fine tolerances. We are able to reduce the diameter of our blanks by 22%. That means, for the first time, a true #0 rod over 9' is possible. The tip sections are 'put in' ferrules (from quiver tip technology) which allows us to start with a thinner butt section creating an extremely thin balanced blank.

      • Weight : 10'6" - 81.3g
      • Weight : 11'6" - 82.3g
      • Med fast matt finish blank
      • Sunray strippers and snakes
      • Matt anodised aluminium reel seat with sliding bands
      • Alignment lines
      • Solid carbon tips
      Lines

If you mostly fish dry fly, then use the Jeremy Lucas Dry Fly #0. You can also French leader, short / long range dry fly and Czech nymph with it.

If you mostly nymph then use the World Nymph. Designed for World competitors, it's a micro thin, coated level line that gives the most direct path to your sub surface flies.

      Leaders

If you mostly fish dry fly, then use Straight 'n' Soft tapered leaders. They are the only leaders on the market that don't coil. They aren't shiny and they lay dead straight. They are a dull matt grey colour at the butt section and clear at the front.

      Typical dry fly setup

Needle knot to fly line or grinner knot to fly line loop
      9' 6X tapered leader
      2 turn water knot
2' 0.10mm tippet with sz 22 dry flies

If you mostly nymph then use Hybrid. Designed for World competitors, it's fluorocarbon coated mono that doesn't get weaker when wet. Wet knot strength is the variable competitors look for.

      Typical nymph setup

Needle knot to fly line or grinner knot to fly line loop
      8' 0.12mm Hybrid tippet
3 turn water knot to top dropper
4" dropper 18" from the point
0.12mm Hybrid tippet to sz 16 spider
Point fly sz 14 weighted bug

      Customer's experience

I've come down Tom's Sunray range from 7, 5, 2 and now zero. All absolute winners and all more than fit for their jobs. I love the 2 weight because of its adaptability and sensitivity but the zero weight is wonderful. At one end of the spectrum, you can control bigger fish because of the rod's sensitivity at the other end that sensitivity gives more bang for the buck, or should it be ounce, when playing the smaller fish. Sure I can't cast it as far as the 2 weight but I don't need to.

      My New Favourite Rod!

      Where to start?
The Sunray Zero really does make every other light line rod seem like a poker.
it's super thin. super light and that tip is just so fine compared to every other fly rod I own and I have a Sage 000 in my quiver!
It's the closest fly rod to a tenkara that I've ever handled and exactly the rod myself and Peter (my regular fishing buddy) have fantasized about making/owning. He has still yet to see it in the flesh but is going to need one so badly.

I spend much of my time chasing coarse fish and I've felt a definite advantage since getting the Zero. Takes are easier to feel and I'm sure I've caught fish I'd have been totally unaware of before the Zero.
It has a fair amount of power once you move down the blank so I'm confident it'll handle the odd lunker and isn't just a tiddler bashing tool. It is obviously superb for small fish though. So far it has only been tested by chub up to around a pound but from tight streams so they have needed bullying - not a problem.
I've mostly been using it at the shorter length at which it really is faultless, At full length is has a "droop" but is still fishable. I wouldn't want to use it at that length in a strong wind though as the tip gets hard to control.
To make it my perfect rod I'd add an extension section in at the butt, like you see on some French nymph rods. As it is though it's easily the closest any rod has come to being "the one".

      Zero foam

Got this set up ready to roll, it feels unreal!
Very nice rod indeed, can’t wait!
Tom has been exceptional to deal with, really informative and a pleasure.

I was so skeptical about ordering this rod!

I ordered both the Zero and the # 2 rods.
I truly thought that I had made a big mistake!
Well let me now assure you all that I have fished this Zero rod for over two weeks straight experiencing nothing but pure joy with every cast and catch!
I have both shoulders operated on and casting is usually not easy. It is with this rod!
I am fishing longer and casting further with less effort than ever before!!
So far my personal best with this rod is a beautiful 20 1/2 rainbow trout. I never felt that I so out of control while fighting her!

      tenkara meets reel

Wow , bought the zero due to wanting a bit more reach and it didn't let down , if your into superlite tackle I don't think you can beat this setup, have used in traditional western setup and also ended up using tenkara style keeping the line off the water, (its so light that muscle memory thinks its a tenkara rod and not that Toms lines need to be kept off the water), excellent kit and most importantly caught on my 1st outing !
