Deep flexing 6 piece #8 double hand rod for Worldwide fisheries. Used by full time guides in Norway, Argentina & Scotland

  • Scandi lines 28g - 36g
  • High wind fisheries like Argentina & Iceland
  • Norwegian rivers
  • Trout & Salmon up to 35lb

The goal was to make the ultimate outfit for the Rio Gallegos in Argentina

The guides all prefer rods that bend. The difficulty for a rod that bends is wind. The Rio Gallegos is one of the windiest fisheries in the World. We reduced friction in the guides by using our K series strippers and air resistance around the blank by making it slimmer. In combination with our Scandi low diameter heads and Mono running line we benefit in beating the wind but also how delicate the lines land. And because it's a soft rod, you can user lighter tippets. The perfect sea trout tool.

    Stats

    • Weight : 291g
    • Length sections : 68cm
    • Length tube : 72cm
    • 6 piece unground natural carbon blank
    • K series anti friction strippers
    • Balanced full flex action
    • Hard anodised saltwater resistant reel seat with anti jam threads.
    • Alignment dots
    • Aluminium tube

    Lines

    • Scandi Gallegos heads
    • Mono running line

    Leaders

Use Straight 'n' Soft tapered leaders. They are the only leaders on the market that don't coil. They aren't shiny and they lay dead straight. They are a dull matt grey colour at the butt section and clear at the front.

    Rio Gallegos high water setup

    • Scandi Gallegos #8 32g 33' hover / S1 / S3
    • Grinner knot to fly line welded loop

    18' total leader length consisting of;

    Flies

    Strip

1 pause 1,2 pause 1,2,3 pause strip strike

Use Hybrid for tippet. It's fluorocarbon coated nylon that doesn't get weaker when wet. Wet knot strength is the variable competitors look for. It's very easy to tie unlike fluorocarbon which is what you need when the wind is blowing you off your feet.

    - The attention to detail that is Tom's signature and the six piece configuration makes it brilliant for smuggling into the house or for its design concept, world travel. The itch to try it overcame the stupidity of going to the river in flood and a below freezing temperature. I threw RioScandi and Skagit, OPST Ultra Short Skagit and Airflo Rage Compacts with line weights from 360 grains to 585 grains. The rod was a delight to cast all through that amazingly wide grain window. I have never come across a rod so versatile. (For you gram boys and girls ; (1gm=15.42 grains.)

However, the icing on the cake was the three Gallegos lines that Tom sent for me to try. Like the rod the lines had been really well thought out. They took the Single Spey, Spiral Spey, Snap T and Poke casts in their stride and that stride was into a different Postcode with a delicate presentation at the end. An amazing combination of rod and line that perform as well as rods twice the price but with a nicer action and a better grain window.

    Fly Rod Warranty

This guarantee is limited to the Original Purchaser and is not transferable to future owners. If during 3 years of the original purchaser, the rod should break or fail, for whatever reason, simply return the rod, invoice, sales receipt, or proof of purchase and we will replace the rod or damaged/faulty part by return.

If within the first 36 months from the date of purchase the failure is due to a manufacturing fault or material defect, then our normal manufacturer’s guarantee will apply and the rod or part will be replaced free of charge, with the relevant handling/postage fee returned. Fees will apply if the failure was due to user error.

Should the rod in question be discontinued it will normally be replaced with a new model up to a similar value, or there is the option to ‘trade up’ to a rod of a higher value, by paying the handling/postage fee, plus the difference in value between the two models. Please note however, that in the case of discontinued models, if purchased in a clearance sale, the maximum value covered by this guarantee is the price paid and not the original RRP.

    Volition 12'6"

My order of Volition 12'6" #8 did safely arrive back in early December for which many thanks. However, being a total beginner of two-handed rods, and not being able to determine what lines to use, I have not had the chance to actually try out the rod as yet. Any advice from you in choosing my line will be greatly appreciated. I am looking to use this rod on big rivers for wild browns, rainbows and the various species of Pacific salmon.

A great fishing rod not just a casting tool

Lovely rod, very well finished with excellent cosmetics. Load deep but with quick recovery in contract with many tip actioned pokers our there. Perfect with a Guideline 8/9 Scandi and Loop SDS multi tip shooting heads

    A proper fishing rod!

My bag currently stocked with Loop Cross and NT8s for ease of travel packing, and admit I bought the Volition as a back up rod, sorry. I am just home after a tough week in Scotland. Tough due to yo yo levels, horrendous wading, difficult winds etc, but the rod was a joy to use. I will not claim it casts better or further than my other rods, which are all excellent and have served me well, but the Volition is just a great “fishing” rod. It has feel and a wonderful through action, which I think actually helps with timing as you can feel exactly how the rod loads and performs. It actually encouraged me to slow down a little and relax! Hence my comments that it was an enjoyable fishing rod. Cosmetics are faultless, (side by side with the Loop Cross and you would be pushed to spot the differences), good quality cork with a nicely shaped thin handle, a personal preference, and I like the “lip” at the top of the handle which is really useful for trapping the line when your hands are freezing. A minor detail but its often the little things which stand out. Lightweight, quality metal rod tube. Proof of the pudding, it handled fish well; no monsters but fish to 20 pounds with no issues. Tom, for the sale price, you have given us a gem of a rod which will be in my bag for every trip. I used a Loop scandi mostly and it handles a variety of tip lengths and weights comfortably. Will try skagits next time in preparation for TDF if we ever get back there! Thank you; no prior interests to declare and I was admittedly a slight sceptic as to how good it could be at the price, but its a great rod; might even add a 7 weight!

Lovely rod can’t wait to try out on my first Salmon escapade - in the mean time it’s great for my bass fishing in fast currents.

    A pleasure meeting you

Bought the 8-weight for the week 3 experience Rio Gallegos 2019. Low water demanded long cats and good presentations. The Voilition deliverd both. Soft, deep but powerfull. My New favourite.
